Emmy Fashion Recap 2015

It is with horror that I have to tell you that I completely forgot about the Emmy Awards last night. I was kind of absorbed in reading and then watching my current obsession (Veronica Mars). So I missed all of the live red carpet coverage and the show itself but I did catch up on the highlights this morning.

First, I know it might not seem like that big of a deal that I missed it and honestly it's really not hard to catch up with the internet. But I love award shows. There's something really great about feeling so invested in the actors that bring your favorite shows to life, and I always cry. It's silly but I do, every damn award show. And who doesn't love a good happy cry? So, in missing it live where I can happily tear up in the comfort of my home, I was forced to embarrassingly choked up at my desk.

Second, I really do prefer to watch the red carpet and get a genuine first impression experience when it comes to the fashion but the sites that do a really good job of recapping and showing the red carpet arrivals are E Online and Huffington Post. They are my go-to sources for pictures of red carpet fashion.

With that here is my favorite look of the night:
Zoe Kazan was nominated for her role in Olive Kitteridge, but I know her from a cute little movie she made with Daniel Radcliffe called What If, it's on Netflix and it's super cute so you should check it out. I love the pattern, the accessories, her make up and hair. Just in general this is all around my favorite.

Going a little more classic, I also really liked Emma Roberts' look last night.

One thing I really didn't love was this look on Nazanin Boniadi, I see where she was trying to go with this, and she is SO beautiful, but the flesh colored part did not work at all for me, and it doesn't fit her.

To wrap things up, I just want to say how excited I was for The Voice and Game of Thrones last night. It's about time Game of Thrones wins Best Drama Series. It is the best. No joke.

And, happy premier week, enjoy new episodes of your favorite shows! I am so excited for the start of The Voice, Modern Family and Grey's Anatomy (to name a few).

Fourteen Days of Pink Recap

Every year since I started college I wear pink for the first 14 days of February. I started this little tradition because I LOVE pink and I have a lot of pink in my wardrobe. One year I went so far as to go the whole month! Twenty eight full days of pink and it was great but a little overkill so I've been continuing with the 14 days ever since. It's just something fun that I like to do every year. For a few years now I've been meaning to document the 14 days of pink with photos and finally this year I managed to get a snap shot each day! I posted these on my Instagram account (@HeatherSaxytown) and used the hashtag #FourteenDaysOfPink. Here is the recap of all the glorious pinkness from this year!

Day ONE
Day TWO

Day THREE

Day FOUR

Day FIVE

Day SIX - Love this necklace and I'm always looking for an excuse to wear it!

Day SEVEN - My favorite pink sweater of the moment!

Day EIGHT - Celebrating my G-Ma's birthday!

Day NINE - Was super excited how well these pink shoes matched!

Day TEN

Day ELEVEN

Day TWELVE

Day THIRTEEN - Celebrating V-Day at work, this is my favorite picture of the two weeks!

Day FOURTEEN - Valentine's date with my hubs.

Thanks to all those who cared to follow my pink journey this year! Looking forward to next year all ready!

Awards Season: Screen Actors Guild 2015 Red Carpet

I know it sounds crazy but I didn't watch the Screen Actors Guild awards or the red carpet. I know, shocking. To be honest I was a little bored at the Golden Globes and I just wasn't feeling it last night, so instead I binge watched The Mindy Project and decided to review the fashions online today.

Now that I see everyone who attended and what they wore I'm pretty disappointed that I didn't watch! Part of the reason I wasn't that in to the Golden Globes this year is because most of the shows I love weren't nominated and so my go-to favorite red carpet celebs didn't even attend. But at the SAGs, all my favorites from Game of Thrones and Modern Family, etc. were there and looking great! Here are the looks that stood out to me the most:

Lupita, I love you. This dress is amazing and I chose this picture so you can see just how beautiful and flowy it is. She always looks so gorgeous!

So this is a risky look but Emma Stone almost always does make bold choices. I'm actually very interested to see her looks over the entire award season. I think this is really chic and could have been a hot mess but is executed perfectly.

Maisie Williams, I love seeing her look so girly at events like this because her Game of Thrones character never gets to look glamorous. I don't really love her shoes here and the top could fit just a little better but this look is very pretty and age appropriate. Plus I love the fabric and the color!

Sophia Bush is so darn beautiful. Seriously she could wear a bag and I think she would look amazing. I love that she is back on TV and attending these events! But I do really like this color on her and the styling, I don't love the fit of the bottom part of the dress or the slit but the bodice and her accessories make up for it.

Reese, looking perfect as per usual. Not much to say here, look at the pic, she is stunning.

Don't judge me but I sort of love this look on Rosamund Pike, especially given the disaster that she wore to the Golden Globes. I actually really like the shape of this, and I like her styling so... way to pull it out Ros!

I think I've learned my lesson on the skipping red carpets and award shows front. Have no fear, I'll be tuning in to the Grammy's and the Oscars and reporting back with my favorites and perhaps my least favorites if there are some truly hot messes out there! Stay tuned!

Emmy's Fashion Recap 2014

It's Emmy's time! I love that we have a little random award show to tide us over until the award season begins in a few short months. Last night at the 66th Annual Emmy Awards there were some hits and a few misses. But we'll get in to all of that below!

My favorites of the night:

Julianne Hough - my overall favorite of the night didn't get a lot of screen time as she wasn't nominated but this look (especially shoulders up) was my personal favorite. She's styled just right and I absolutely love her hair and make up. The dress is hard to photograph but I love the big bow detail and the dramatic slit.

Hayden Panettiere - look at this cute mom-to-be! This dress is so flattering on her tiny pregnant frame and I love the light pink choice, perfect for her big gender reveal to Guilliana on the red carpet. (If you didn't catch that, she's having a girl!)

Sarah Hyland - among the many many red dresses of the night this one stands apart, so it's more coral than red, it still fits! This look is so young and fresh, perfect for the Modern Family star. From the crop top to the full skirt and ballerina bun, this is perfect head to toe!

Honorable Mention:

While these didn't stand out the way my favorites did, I absolutely love this red dress on Julia Louis-Dreyfus and the detailing on Michelle Dockery's gown.

Let down of the night:

While she took away the Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series again this year for Breaking Bad, I was let down by this look on Anna Gunn. Don't get me wrong, she really does look beautiful; but, she looked so amazing last year I thought this look fell a little flat in comparison.

And the worst (it's just my opinion):

These voluminous looks were my least favorite of the night. Sorry Sarah Paulson and Lena Dunham.

So that's a wrap on Emmy's 2014, is it bad that I'm already looking forward to February? Red carpets and award shows are one of my great loves, looking forward to cozying up and enjoying some fashion this winter!

Taylor Swift Shakes It Off

Hi all you Taylor fans out there. I'm sure you've all heard the announcement of Taylor's new pop album entitled "1989" coming out October 27th! In related news, Taylor released her first single and music video from the record, "Shake It Off". In the video they hired various kinds of professional dancers and placed Taylor right in the middle of them. Fitting perfectly with the theme of shaking off what people say about you, they literally shake their way through the video. Here are some of the looks Taylor takes on in this new music video:

Hip-hop Taylor.

Ballerina Taylor.

Modern Dance Taylor.

Techno Taylor.

Ghetto-Fabulous Taylor.

Cheerleader Taylor.

Taylor Taylor.
So which look is your favorite from the video, and have you pre-bought your copy of "1989" yet?

Met Gala 2014 - OOH, AHH

The Met Gala 2014 was held this week and in stark contrast to the Punk Rock theme of last year, this year the stars showed up in full evening dress including tails and suggested "white tie" attire for the men. Here's a look at my favorite (Ooh) and least favorite (Ahh!) of the evening:

OOH

My celebrity bestie Emma Stone was my favorite, mostly because I'm a little obsessed with this crop top and high waist skirt trend that's happening and super jealous that I don't have anywhere to wear something like this or the ability to pull it off. Also, I really like when red heads wear pink.

AHH!

What is happening with this ensemble? I feel like Beyonce is going cross eyed from this disturbing veil. I guess if anyone was going to pull it of it would be Beyonce but no, I don't like it.

Oscars Fashion 2014

Well, I missed the Oscars last night because I was on my honeymoon! However, I did catch the very end at the airport and then caught up on YouTube today! Here are my top 3 of the night!
There were some other really nice dresses but overall these were my favorites, I would wear any one of these if given the opportunity and the styling is beautiful!

And, in my googling of the red carpet images (since I missed watching it live) I happened upon this and was horrified, so I'm making it my worst look. Not because the dress is ugly or the styling is off, but because Kelly needs a burger ASAP. Too skinny! Looking at this makes me sad.
Happy Oscars everyone! While I think the movies this season were less spectacular than years past, especially coming off last season which was SO amazing, the fashion hasn't disappointed. Big take away from this season, Lupita Nyong'o is going to be a huge star, and I can't wait to watch what she wears for years to come!

Critics Choice & SAG Awards Fashion Review

This weekend we had TWO major award shows, the Critics Choice Awards and the Screen Actors Guild Awards. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to watch the Critics Choice red carpet live but in reviewing the internet and all the pictures I could find, here are this critics choices for the best dressed of the night!

From top left, clockwise: Amy Adams, Brie Larson, Kristen Bell, Lupita Nyong'o

You can't really tell from this picture but Amy Adam's pink dress has a little texture to it and I'm a little obsessed with it. I love it when red heads pull off pink. I've seen it go really bad but this looks beautiful on Amy. I wasn't even sure who Brie Larson was (she's been in 21 Jump Street, Short Term 12, Don Jon, among others), but this dress is one of my favorites. I love the pattern, neckline and belted middle - really, really flattering. Kristen Bell & Lupita Nyong'o - seriously gorgeous in their black and white. Lupita is my #1 "To-Watch" this season, she's been killing it on every red carpet.

Moving on to the SAG Awards, which aired on Saturday night on TNT and TBS. I did get a chance to watch the red carpet coverage for this one so I can tell you that this light pink frock that Cate Blanchett wore was really beautiful in motion on the carpet, it didn't however photograph well at all so she's not on my best dressed of the night list.

Those who did make my list include a few repeats! Amy Adams & Lupita Nyong'o top my list among Jennifer Lawrence and Elisabeth Moss, both of whom went simple but completely flawless.

From left, clockwise: Amy Adams, Lupita Nyong'o, Jennifer Lawrence, Elisabeth Moss

And finally, the best accessory of the night goes to Anna Gunn with her Breaking Bad clutch - I love it so much, she doesn't look to shabby either!

Grammy's are coming up next week and then we've got the month long wait for the Oscars! This award season is just flying by! Looking forward to the crazy fashion coming up this Sunday at the Grammy's!

Golden Globes Red Carpet Review

I'm a little behind on my post for this one but I'm so excited to start the awards season fashion recap blogs! It's my second favorite time of year (behind the holiday season) and this year we get to stretch it out a little more because due to the Olympics The Oscars will not be held until March 2nd! But let's not get ahead of ourselves. The 71st Annual Golden Globes was held Sunday night and the red carpet was over flowing with A-List stars from TV and film.

STAPLE ALERT - Red is the new black
I can't call red dresses on the red carpet a trend anymore because it seems they are becoming a staple among the stars. Red was definitely the biggest trend of the night with so many stars choosing the bold look. What I will call a trend among these is the two tone looks we see here which were my favorites among the red looks of the night, with the exception fo Lupita Nyong'o's caped dress which was completely flawless. SO MUCH RED!

TREND ALERT - Baby bumps
Okay so it's probably not feasible for everyone to adapt this trend to their looks but there were some seriously gorgeous bumps on the carpet! Olivia Wilde was my top choice for pregnant fashionista. She looks so good, even without her maternal accessory this would have been a top choice of the night!

MY FAVORITE - Margot Robbie
I haven't seen Wolf of Wallstreet so Margot wasn't really on my radar, but this look was by far my favorite of the night. The fit is perfect, the jeweled accent is to die for, and the emerald shoe to match is fantastic. Not to mention, her beautifully spray tanned skin, makeup and hair. The overall look is so polished and glamorous!

I also just want to say how happy I was that Breaking Bad won, and that Amy Poehler won for Parks and Recreation! She could literally be my best friend, I love her to pieces. I am however, deeply wounded that Aaron Paul didn't win for his role in Breaking Bad, Jesse was my favorite character and he was amazing.

PS Amy & Tina were not only hilarious but absolutely stunning!

Okay, that's all.

Here's what I think: MTV Movie Awards Fashion Recap

I love watching what people wear to award shows hosted on MTV, some people really know how to do it up in a fun but fashionable way while others completely lose their minds and show up in the most ridiculous clothes you might ever see! Here's a recap of how things went down last night.

Fashion Favorites - these are my top choices for the night, these stars really know how to have fun with fashion but also keep it appropriate and stylish.

These poor girls look very pretty but also look like they shopped in the juniors section at Dillards, oh so boring.

And here are a few of the stars that let their freak flags fly last night. I'd just like to say to Taylor Lautner that I see where he was coming from and I think he thought it was pretty funny but seriously he just needs to get over the fact that girls primarily like him because he looks hot without a shirt. Sorry but you've got a ways to go before you're appreciated for your acting chops.

Here's what I think: Pretty Little Liars Style

Let's face, we tune in to Pretty Little Liars week after week not just for the mystery and suspense but also for the fashion! Over the past three seasons the style of these leading ladies has evolved and made each of these characters and actresses style icons!

Spencer - Spencer's style has evolved over the last three years as her character has. She started out very preppy and buttoned up. As her character has become more open her style has become more natural while still keeping things classic and polished.

Aria - Aria gets to have all the fun. Her style is bold and takes a lot of risks. She's not afraid to mix patterns and textures which gives her a super edgy look, especially compared to her more conservative friends.

Hanna - Hanna started as an Allison wannabe. After Allison's disappearance she made herself in to the new queen bee and dressed the part with typical popular girl clothes. As her character becomes more comfortable in her own skin and new body (having been overweight in her childhood) Hanna become a fashionista. She loves fashion and she's not afraid to go for the more glamorous looks! Seriously, no one in high school dresses like Hanna!

Emily - Emily has the most realistic wardrobe for a high school student. She is an athlete so she's more comfortable in jeans and tanks a lot of the time. What bothers me about Emily's wardrobe is that I feel like they are trying to tone down how gorgeous she is and make her look like a tomboy. Just because she's a lesbian doesn't mean she has to wear denim vests and plaid shirts all the time, let her glam it up once in a while to fit in with her fashionable friends!

And let's not forget Mona, she may not be one of the core four but I love her style, especially this last season!

While each of these characters and the actresses who play them have great style, they look even better as a group, check out how the style of this foursome has changed over the last few years.

Here's what I think: Sewing Project - 50's Style Prom Dress

Each year I attend a throwback prom charity event that is held in my hometown. One of my best friends has been on the planning committee since the founding of this event and this year I joined her in planning the 6th annual event!

Over the year's we have had themes like Prom Part Deux, Revenge of the Prom and even a Night of the Living Prom where we all dressed as fancy zombies! This year with our throwback theme, anything goes! It's been obvious over the past five years that the most popular attire for prom is classic vintage/retro prom gear! Why mess with a good thing? Who doesn't want to throw on an old prom dress from the 80's and tease up their hair nice and big?

I've done 80's for two of the past five proms so this year my boyfriend and I decided to throw back to another era, the 50's! I love fashion but living in a small town, I have very few opportunities to really go all out. So for prom I like to do it up big! I also am incredibly picky and specific in the things that I want to wear, so sometimes I have to just make them myself! I did some research on 50's prom dresses and with a couple of pictures as my inspiration and guide I set out to make myself a wonderfully pink ruffled dress fit for the 1950's!

I think it turned out pretty well and I can't wait to wear it to our event on April 6th!

If you want more information about proms past and our upcoming event check out the facebook!
And if you're going to be in the Ames area on April 6th throw on your favorite prom-wear and join us for an awesome party! Tickets are on sale exclusively online here!

Here's what I think: Trend Alert - BOWS!

Bow are all over the place! From the runway to the red carpet to our every day wardrobe, here are examples of the cutest and sweetest new fashion trend!

On the Runway -

On the Carpet -

Kerry Washington & Reese Witherspoon rocked the bow trend at the Oscars.
